On the 9th of November, I was talking to my friend Andrzej Wosiek (Andy), @shinji_wu on Instagram about random travel stuff like we usually do, until suddenly his account name became "Instagrammer". All 494 posts he shared throughout the years were not shown in his profile, and his username does not show when searched on the search bar. Almost immediately, my friend Andy sent me a message on Messenger, saying that Instagram disabled his account without warning, for a violation he was not aware of.

Andy had his Instagram account for about 10 years already. He invested a lot of passion and love for landscape photography on his Instagram @shinji_wu but they just disabled it without any clear reasons. We find this unacceptable. Why would Instagram / Facebook block someone without a warning or any clear reason? This could have happened to anyone. This could have happened to us as well. Apparently, the Disable Team of Instagram is managed by bots. It follows certain algorithms to detect accounts that may be not following the terms. But, obviously it is not always accurate. Who knows how many accounts faced the same problem because of these bots disabling accounts randomly. A lot of cases were recorded that people get disabled, and after some time, Instagram would re-enable the account, saying sorry cause they made a mistake. Instagram has a very flawed system and the users are paying the price.

Now that the damage has been done, Andy tries to recover his account the way Instagram designed the process to be. Filling up a form, sending it, then waiting for an automated reply, sending requested personal photos as proof, then waiting until actions something happens. But where does it go after this? It's been over three weeks since he submitted a report to reinstate his account, but still no feedback or whatsoever from Instagram. 

Instagram, we want you to hear us out. @shinji_wu could be any of us. We could also be the victims. Please, change the process of reporting a disabled account. We all deserve to talk to an actual support representative and get immediate response about the case, not just automated replies. We don't deserve to be disabled for no reason. 

We demand you to change the process. We ask you to enable @shinji_wu's account. He has been an inspiration for many of us who love Japanese Landscapes and we want him back!
