Megan Bernard started this petition to Facebook (Facebook) and

Yep, that's Facebook for you. There's money to be made from their hate speech traffic so simply reporting it isn't going to stop them.

But hang on, they just BANNED a breast cancer research fundraiser! https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-05-03/breast-cancer-campaign-ad-1/11076178

Now let's get back to Hate Speech.

Facebook's Community Standards page CLEARLY defines hate speech: "as a direct attack on people based on what we call protected characteristics — race, ethnicity, national origin, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, caste, sex, gender, gender identity, and serious disease or disability. We also provide some protections for immigration status. We define attack as violent or dehumanizing speech, statements of inferiority, or calls for exclusion or segregation".

Additionally, in a Guardian article from March 2019, Facebook says "it concluded after ‘conversations’ with civil rights groups that white nationalism and separatism cannot be separated from white supremacy and organized hate groups".

The 'Party love Australia or Leave' is an example of White Nationalism and Separatism and clearly promotes this by stating: "BAN ISLAMIC IMMIGRATION" on their page.

- ISLAM is a religion. BANNING IMMIGRATION based purely on religion constitutes hate speech according to Facebook's own community standards page.

White Nationalist groups such as this are very good at framing their messaging as not always blatantly racist so it gains popular appeal. People will subscribe to many ideas on this page that are quite mainstream, but behind it is an authoritarian and exclusionary ideology that REPRESENTS AS ANTI-DEMOCRATIC.

Let's demand Facebook REMOVE this dangerous rhetoric and help stop the normalisation of the far right's exclusionary views!!
