Misogyny Exposed started this petition to Facebook and

The silencing of women's voices on these social media platforms has gone on for far too long and it's time for it to end. Both Facebook and Twitter allow sexist, misogynistic, demeaning and degrading posts from males who target women, to be placed on their platforms daily. They claim to have so-called "community standards " (which can't even be taken seriously at this point) yet there is clearly and without question a double standard when it comes to the decision to shut down access for women.

Women are not only targeted and humiliated but they are also threatened with violence from males, both masculine and feminine, from Trump to the average male on the street. Neither Facebook or Twitter do a thing to stop any of these males from attacking women, even after many women report the posts. Yet let a woman say anything back to any of these males out of anger or frustration and their accounts are shut down, they are given warnings, their accounts are suspended for up to thirty days at a time or suspended permanently. No matter how many times women have complained about this, our voices continue to be silenced and ignored, as there is no real mechanism in place for these complaints to be heard. This suppression and criminalization of women MUST END NOW!

Since both of these social media platforms are now considered to be a part of the everyday lives of millions, it is incumbent upon their owners to realize that they are in fact:

-creating emotional harm against women and girls,

-having a psychological effect on women who are now afraid to say what they think, in response to misogynistic males,

-oppressively silencing the voices of women who dare to speak out against this onslaught of sexism and misogyny,

-affecting the livelihood of women who use these platforms to run groups and conduct business.

We therefore demand that Facebook and Twitter change their policies and give women options to have their voices heard, before any attempts are made to shut down and suspend any account by a woman who is speaking up and out against or responding to, a sexist, misogynistic, oppressive or threatening comment or post. We also demand that more women be hired at these companies so they are in a position to look at a conversation or thread in its entirety and that a way of communicating with a moderator be put in place, instead of the current practice of shutting down a woman's account with no recourse, conversation or understanding of context.

We also demand that the males who consistently engage in the misogynistic behavior be removed and that their pages be given a thorough review before being allowed to utilize these platforms again. This silencing of women's voices must end now!
