Stop social media users’ limitations on Instagram, Twitter and others! Develop smarter user prediction algorithms or stop using them altogether. People are tired of being banned after being suspected to be a bot!!! These algorithms are intolerable.

I believe it doesn’t feel social when you feel like you’re being surveilled and it starts to compromise your freedom of expression, that’s why I have created this petition ! Let’s express ourselves!

Recently, more and more users of social media are being banned and punished after being suspected of being bots; in a majority of these cases these users are not bots, but regular users whose usage patterns differ from the behavior of the majority of the users. These are some users which have been wrong detected :

A tattoo artist : “I have a professional account, and sometimes I like tons of cool posts, or things that I’m interested in… and I might follow lots more accounts than normal.

I got an alert from Instagram calling this suspicious usage. All of a sudden, I couldn’t do anything whatsoever on my account except observe.

I don’t remember if I was able to send direct messages, but I could neither like posts nor leave comments.  The statistics—likes, comments, shares, views—plummeted; it tooks me five months to get back where I was before being “blacklisted” ‍♀️”

A photographer : “My account has been blocked for one week—it’s the second time that this happened and I have never been using a bot.”

A 20 yo student : “I was blocked from following other Instagram accounts after I created a new account because I couldn’t follow all the accounts I wanted to follow in a single day.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯”

What is going on ? The social media companies are predicting our user behavior and they are restricting any distinctive, individual behavior. This is simply unacceptable.

We are not all the same. We are not cookie-cutter users.  We want to be free to express ourselves, even if our personalities confuse these trained algorithms!  Our demand: train your algorithms better before unleashing them on your content-creating users.

The anti-bot policies of Instagram and Twitter is needlessly harsh, and limits all regular users. This should not happen, particularly in the case of social media, where all content comes from us: the users! Being banned as a business can be devastating, with huge consequences, while Facebook surfs on the backs of its users and enjoys massive  benefits from the all data.

Why are they focusing on tracking bots rather than  on users satisfaction? Plus bots have been made by humans. Bots could not create an account themselves or spam a user, but for other facts I don't understand this policy at all ! Please do not punish users, we do not care if it allows more bots !

Deploy only those algorithms which do no not limit and restrict the behavior and individuality of your users !
