Stop Racist Anti-Palestinian Abuse on Facebook
Facebook need to be compelled to treat Palestinian people as human beings and enforce basic Community Standards against those abusing them.
Individuals have been reported to Facebook who have used the following racialised epithets about Palestinians: "Fakestinians", "Paliestinians", and also the racially pejorative term "Pallywood" about evidence of the killing of Palestinian civilians by Israel and its armed forces and irregulars. But this response is always to say that these are not against Community Standards.
There is no difference in intent between someone using these epithets and calling black people "n****s", "w*gs", "c**ns" etc. Or calling Jewish people "Y*ds" or "K***s".
If someone calls a Jewish person a "holohoaxer" and suggests that the Nazi genocide was concocted by "Jewish Hollywood" that would be considered to be outside Community Standards.
All these epithets and slurs deny the humanity of those targeted by them, and justify violence.
The same is true of epithets like "Fakestinians", "Paliestinians", and "Pallywood".
Facebook's denial of this obvious truth is itself racist and denies the humanity and basic rights of the Palestinian people not to be racially abused.
It is a scandal that Facebook considers the racial abuse of Palestinians to be in accord with its Community Standards.
That means that Facebook itself shares the prejudice and bigotry of those who use these epithets.
Facebook must ban the use of dehumanising and abusive terms against Palestinians on the same basis as other racial abuse.
