Especially at a time when tensions are high, many of us have experienced this too often: you report a racist, homophobic, transphobic, sexist, or otherwise bigoted statement that is oftentimes threatening, and spiteful. There’s some deliberation, and every single time it’s the same speech, “we reviewed the comment that you reported and found that it doesn’t go against any of our Community Standards.” Yet if anything is said in return, more often than not, when we choose to speak up, we’re shut down and some of us end up being banned.

This is absolutely unacceptable. They want us to disappear quietly, and ignore the bullying that has gotten us to where we are today. As a social media platform, it is their duty to remain vigilant and remove any and ALL attacks, not just the ones that their biased moderators see fit. 

The harder they push, the harder we push back, because we are better than this. We can never know true freedom until everyone is standing on equal ground, and social media platforms have a huge responsibility to maintain equality and safety. 

Let’s make sure we hold them to their own standards!
