Because racism is racism and it's never humorous.

Humour can hurt especially if cruel and hateful. Bullies excuse is always it was just a joke. Racism can not be excused by claiming it is funny

Facebook constantly allows people that "jokingly" or openly promote hatred to get away with murder - literally. I have seen the consequences of hatred in other people's lives where I live and in other countries and I have experienced these. It amazes me that Facbeook is more interested in rushing to ban nude artworks than it is in protecting human life.

Someone I went to high school with has his photo uploaded with a 'humor' remark. I already reported the photo but was given a "photo not taken down" by facebook.

It does not matter whether someone says something in a joke or not! If the joke is racist and portrays bad judgement in ones charactor...take that crap off of your site! Why is a petition needed in order for you to do what's right! You have a responsibility FB to mandate that for humanity's sake! Wake the hell up and do what's right!

I saw that picture comparing black people to monkeys/ apes. All of these things perpetuate hatred and continues the cycle. I love a good joke but that is not funny.

Racist humor eventually pervades regular thought and people assume its true when it is actually mean spirited racism. Antisemitic, anti-black, anti-asian jokes all work this way and none are acceptable.
