Adrian Hancock started this petition to Facebook

For years, Facebook has allowed terrible medical falsehoods to proliferate, to the detriment of public health and the safety of individuals. A good example of this would be the anti-vaccination movement leading to real-world increases of disease morbidity in places the diseases were once considered eradicated from. Another good example would be the parents who believe they can "fix" their children by administering chlorine bleach to them. These are real ideas being perpetuated on Facebook, and they're not even the worst examples.

This is not acceptable for public health, and I believe such posts should be moderated by Facebook sooner than later, before any further harm is done. The mechanisms already exist for spam, scams, violence, fake news and harassment, so it would be trivial to implement a reporting system for fake medical advice from unqualified laypeople.

This is a menace to society and a slap in the face to the many professionals who dedicate their entire lives to advancing medicine and reducing human death and suffering, yet there are people on social media who believe they know more. If this is allowed to continue, the situation will only get worse.

Please support this petition. We need to leave medicine to medical professionals, and not Dr. Facebook User with their Google degree.
