Recently, I became the victim of online bullying by an international community of trolls.
So many Facebook posts and comments were telling me to “go kill yourself.” Others were so distressing, I won’t even repeat them.
I reported some of the vile comments to Facebook, yet Facebook didn’t remove a single comment… Not one.
This must be agony for the 43% of kids bullied online. No wonder bullying victims are 9 times more likely to commit suicide.
Facebook’s complaints process is utterly broken. It’s automated and very restricted, with no room for context when people are experiencing cyber-bullying. . Review times are also far too long, leaving victims feeling helpless while they continue to be attacked on social media.
One of the biggest concerns, is that unlike Twitter, Facebook doesn’t restrict account creation per device -- which means a troll can be banned and then jump back online to make an endless number of accounts to bully from.
You can help by signing this petition calling on Facebook to set the standard for online social media platforms and take meaningful action against bullying.
