On April 13, 2017, in response to his campaign for social justice and justice, Mashal Khan, a 23-year-old journalism student, was stripped naked, beaten with sticks and bricks, and then killed with pistol shots by a mob of students in Pakistan. The killers had falsely accused Mashal of posting disrespectful content of blasphemy on his Facebook page. In the face of violent extremism, Mashal sacrificed his own life by speaking out for human dignity and tolerance and in defence of the transformation violence everywhere. Mashal’s bravery has sparked a movement and we believe that Facebook, Google, Twitter, and Microsoft should name their joint new database “Mashal” since they have pledged to tackle online extremists’ content.
Facebook, Google, Twitter & Microsoft: by naming for your shared new online database “Mashal”, you will send a clear message that the global community is watching and will support those who stand up for social justice, universal human rights, and peace.
