Facebook needs to change their community rules when it comes to posting mastectomy pics.
Support groups need to be able to show nipples for educational purposes in order for potential mastectomy patients to be able to share their pictures fully, without being censored. This is really important for those who are previvors as well as survivors who are in the process of having surgery. Countless numbers of women have either lost their accounts, or have been in Facebook time out for posting their mastectomy pics. These pictures are a vital component in many survivors' and previvors' journeys and decision making process. This reporting and censoring needs to STOP! We need to have a registry on Facebook for mastectomy and other cancer support groups and their members so that this does not continue to happen.
My name is Irina Brooke, and I am the creator of a BRCA HBOC(Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer) support group named 'Mutant Strong!' We have cancer survivors and previvors in the group. We provide emotional support, as well as vital information regarding various forms of reconstruction.
