The problem began on April 3rd, when Shahid Afridi, a former Pakistani cricketer and captain of the Pakistan national cricket team, tweeted: "Appalling and worrisome situation ongoing in the Indian Occupied Kashmir. Innocents being shot down by oppressive regime to clamp voice of self determination & independence. Wonder where is the @UN & other int bodies & why aren't they making efforts to stop this bloodshed?" In response to his tweet, Afridi received an avalanche of racist abuse from Indian nationalists. Younus Bashir, who is Kashmiri, changed his Facebook profile photo to that of Shahid Afridi to acknowledge and respect that Afridi would stand against abuse to support Kashmiris. An Indian nationalist came to Younus's Facebook wall to object and in a long discussion claimed Pakistanis were all manipulated and also dragged out the nationalist canard about Kashmiri Pandits. Younus, on his own Facebook wall, defended the Kashmiri demand to end the occupation and for self-determination. It was not a vituperative discussion but apparently someone, probably the nationalist, reported it to Facebook which censors the voices of Kashmiri freedom.

We are asking Facebook to reinstate the account of Younus Bashir and stop censoring necessary and democratic political discussion.
