End Facebook's Discrimination Against the LGBTQ & Kinky Community

Facebook is deleting our groups and discriminating against us, this has been going since 2013 when a woman named Lauren Bates author of Everyday Sexism. In May, 2013 she started a movement with the hashtag #FBRape, this was movement that accused Facebook BDSM groups of not only supporting rape violence and also supporting domestic violence against women. The movement (however untrue we know it is) caused many advertisers pull their advertisements from Facebook altogether which in turn caused Facebook to lose revenue.

Because of the loss in their advertisers Facebook decided to take action and on May 29, 2013, Facebook announced it would update its policies on hate speech, increase accountability of content creators, and train staff to be more responsive to complaints. When this happened Facebook purged hundreds of BDSM and LGBTQ groups and still purges about once every few years. I own a very popular BDSM group and it is mentally exhausting for not only myself but also our moderators, my fellow owners, and our members to worry about the possibility of the groups being deleted again and again. In the course of a year we have rebuilt our groups over seven times. The groups are important to us not only for our members who enjoy being in our group but it’s also important because of the business we own based off of our groups.

I know we aren’t the traditional kind of community like the LGBTQ Community is (who Facebook has also been discriminating against) but I think that as members of Facebook that we deserve the same respect as other members. So please sign the petition and pass it on so that maybe just maybe we can actually get Facebook to hear us and know that we are serious, they changed their standards once and they can do it again!
