Matt Miller started this petition to Facebook

A recent study has found that social media user optimization algorithms (like the one Facebook uses to create your news feed) lead to "information gerrymandering", making communication and compromise nigh-impossible. The consequences for our world have already been devastating.

When Facebook started, news feed was a simple, chronological record of what your friends had posted. It's not that way, now. Facebook profits from our attention, and tries to maximize the amount of time we spend on their platform; to do so, they show us only the things they think we want to see. This algorithm has helped sow terrifying dysfunction in our politics. A simple, chronological, historical news feed - where we see posts from all our friends, in the order they post them - could be critical to help us overcome this crisis.

Facebook's algorithm is doing unspeakable damage to our democracy, and our world. We need  a chronological, historical news feed, so we can have conversations across informational gerrymanders; so we can see what everyone around us thinks, and not just the people who agree with us. Stop telling us what we want to see, Facebook! Get out of the way, and let us talk to each other - so we can work our way out of this mess!
