Ban videos & images of child abuse/neglect/endangerment & prosecute those who share it!

Everyday, nearly one million children across the United States are abused, neglected, or endangered by a parent, a family member, a babysitter, a teacher, a counselor, or stranger. Children are innocent and while it’s hard to imagine anyone intentionally harming or even killing a child, it happens! Social media has become a popular platform to share vile and disturbing videos and images of children across the country that are bullied, harassed, beaten, abused, and even raped!

As of today, a video is being circulated in which a young girl, under the age of ten, is seen performing oral sex on an adult man! As disgusting as it was to type those words, how much more disgusted and outraged should we be that this happened in the first place? How disgusted and outraged should we be that Facebook has allowed this video to be uploaded, viewed, shared, and REPORTED multiple times?

You can barely post a live video playing music in the background without being accused of copy-write infringement or post an article without being accused of sharing "fake news" so how are these types of videos and images being shared without bringing attention to Facebook?  With all the algorithms and additional measures in place to monitor the activity of Facebook users and prevent them from violating rules, how was a video like this uploaded in the first place? THIS IS DISGUSTING AND UNACCEPTABLE AND ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!

Now, more than ever, Facebook needs to be reminded of their own rules and be held to their own standards! Additionally, those in violation of cyber crimes, particularly involving children, should be held accountable for their actions! As a victim and a mother of two teenaged daughters and a young son, I am asking for each of you to stand in solidarity with me and demand that Facebook creator, Mark Zuckerberg, his corporate leaders, all national and international sponsors, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Department of Justice (DOJ), along with agencies such as the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, take these matters seriously!  It is time for these agencies to join forces and actively combat the spread of videos and images involving the physical, mental, emotional, and sexual abuse of children. Together, these agencies have the PEOPLE, POWER, PLATFORMS, and RESOURCES to not only control the activity of Facebook users, but to investigate any individual or group profiles that upload and/or disseminate videos and images such as the one described above.

With one case of child abuse reported every 10 seconds, and an average of 7 deaths each day due to child abuse or neglect, TOMORROW IS TOO LATE!  Facebook needs to establish a policy to immediately address the sharing of any disturbing content involving minors. If a policy is already in place, Facebook needs to ensure that it is not only STRICTLY enforced, but that those who knowingly and willingly participate in the creation or distribution of said videos and images be apprehended and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law!

YOUR SILENCE IS COMPLICITY!! It is our responsibility as human beings to stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves!! If you see something, say something, starting with holding Facebook accountable for videos and images that are disgusting, disrespectful, demeaning and deplorable! Please do the right thing by signing and sharing this petition!! One by one we can make a difference!!
