  • "When joining many websites or organizations, February 29 is often overlooked. Missing. Not an option. From the DMV of many states, and hospitals allowing birth certificates to be falsified, too many social media platforms, and organizations, it is looked at as "NOT A VALID DATE".

It's about time, literally, that computer systems acknowledge February 29.

Here in the U.S., there are people born on February 29 who have issues because of their birth date. At some DMV's we are told to "pick a date" or it is “chosen” for us. Because their computer system is not Leap Day friendly, we are forced to have what appears to be a forged ID. It doesn’t expire on our birth date so it is treated as fake.

When Raenell, the Leap Day Lady moved to Oregon the employee at the DMV told her that “the computer said” February 29 is “not a valid date”. She was told to choose February 28 or March 1. Raenell would not accept a different date and the manager was called. That manager did what every DMV should do and that is they extended Raenell’s license to the next Leap Day. Simple. As. That.

Is it really a problem that 1 out of every 1461 of us have an extended expiration? No.
The problem, for many, is that the expiration is not extended which causes problems.

Please help us get the attention we need by signing this petition. Thank you. And by the way, Leap Day is everyone’s Extra Day. Do something good with it.
