Control and Enforcement on Fly Tipping in Harehills.

Since the Harehills Tip/Waste management site was closed a few years ago, the residents of Harehills have seen a massive rise in illegal fly tipping on our street corners and even on the roads. The items left vary from black bags to white goods which is a potential breach of breach of health and safety laws.

Every time the Cleaner Neighborhood Team clear an area of waste there is always another area to clean up within a matter of minutes. The repeat offenders who fly tip know that they won't get fined or prosecuted so they will continue to repeat offending.

The Residents of Harehills are calling for control a enforcement on this issue as well as better enforcement of the "illegal" scrap vans who do not hold or visually place their permit to exercise their waste management business. The scrap vans that are currently operating in Harehills are also in breach of many highway laws too such as: Overloading, Fly Tipping, Dangerous Driving, Unsafe loading, Illegal parking.

It doesn't help that the Leeds City Council have started putting up charges of £20 per item to collect and dispose of either, these charges are too expensive for low income households. This service must be free for all tax paying residents no matter their monthly  income.

The residents of Harehills are calling for a long term scheme that sees the control and enforcement (of various authorities) to eradicate, fine and prosecute those who continue to fly tip (Tenants and Landlords) and those who are illegally operating an illegal scrap business.
