Extra Credit Opportunity for 4th Semester ASN students

Extra Credit Opportunity for 4th Semester ASN students
Date: December 5, 2021
Dear Faculty,
We are writing this letter in objection to the school’s policy not allowing extra credit points to be offered toward exam averages this semester. We believe this seemingly arbitrary decision will result in an unjust outcome for students.
The past three semesters all students were given the opportunity to earn extra credit points to be added to their exam average. This was presumably because of the pandemic related challenges faced by both faculty and students. It would be hard to argue that the unexpected move to an all-online format did not affect the school’s ability to offer a top tier education. In turn, it would be equally difficult to make the case that this did not hinder student’s ability to perform at their best level. Though the current semester is back in-person, this does not mean it came without difficulties, nor does it erase the consequences of the previous three. In addition, many people are still facing challenges and disruptions caused by the pandemic.
We ask that this institution recognize the extreme and unprecedented challenges faced by the students. We have been beaten and bruised by this pandemic, and our education has suffered because of it. We are taught in the nursing profession the importance of advocating for those in our care. As students we are under the care of the faculty, and Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences as a whole, and we implore you to do the right thing and come to our aid. We respectfully ask for a prompt formal response and explanation from Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences on this matter.
Sincerely,
NUR 202 Students
