SkyTrain for Surrey
May 1, 2018
Good morning everyone, If you have not already heard, TransLink has revealed that the cost to build the first phase of Surrey's street-running Light Rail Transit system is $1.65 billion dollars. This is for the Surrey-Newton-Guildford LRT (SNG LRT) line and does not include a potential Surrey-Langley SkyTrain extension. SNG LRT will now be over $700 million more expensive to build compared to original cost estimates of $920 million. At these costs, which exceed $150 million per kilometre, the Surrey-Newton-Guildford LRT will also be more expensive to build - per kilometre - than both the Millennium Line: Evergreen Extension and the Canada Line. TransLink recently began consultation on the 10-Year-Vision's 'Phase Two Plan', which includes the $1.65 billion SNG LRT. An online survey will be available until May 11th. This is your opportunity to tell TransLink directly that you don't support the Surrey-Newton-Guildford LRT, Surrey's LRT vision, and the Phase 2 Plan. A short survey guide and the link to survey are posted on our website at: http://skytrainforsurrey.org/saynotophase2. It is absolutely imperative that everyone participate this survey and make TransLink aware of their opposition to the Surrey-Newton-Guildford LRT and Surrey's LRT vision. SkyTrain for Surrey is now in the process of planning the next phase of outreach action in the community. Near-future activities will include rallies, flyer creation/distribution, and other forms of public outreach. We encourage you to get in touch with us by filling in the form at http://skytrainforsurrey.org/volunteer/ if you would like to help. We thank you for your support and hope you will continue to assist us. Daryl Dela Cruz - Founding Director Email me: daryl@skytrainforsurrey.org
