Petitioning Exeter City Council

Ensure local food producers are part of the Exeter City Centre Strategy.

A strategic review regarding the future of Exeter's city centre is currently in play. We are concerned that recent discussions have not yet included any plans to involve local food producers and retailers. 50 years ago over 50% of food and drink consumed in Exeter came from the surrounding countryside. Today the figure is less than 5%. Devon is renowned for its quality, artisan food producers and quality beef, lamb and dairy produce. As the capital city of Devon, Exeter is wonderfully positioned to make the best of these resources. The support of local food producers and retailers by Exeter City Council would help the local economy, bring in tourists, contribute to the sustainable production of food for the local community as well as providing a vibrant and diverse element to the city centre.
