Why this petition matters

Started by Tobi Robinson

Picture this, you’re in between classes and you have to go to the bathroom. It’s happened to all of us. You’ve only got a few minutes to find a bathroom. Even when you do, half the time they’re locked. Now, imagine you’re searching for one, and you just can’t find any. None at all.  That’s what transgender people have to face every day at Everett. People that don’t conform to the “regular” gender binary deserve a bathroom they feel comfortable in. That’s why a unisex bathroom should be in place for all students to use. Having easily accessible bathrooms is a basic human need each person deserves to have.

Bathroom discrimination isn’t a new issue, segregated bathrooms have only just stopped in the late 60's and even then, people were still prejudiced about bathroom rights. Bathroom rights. While this problem at Everett is not new, it is increasingly frustrating as our numbers of transgender students have gone up in more recent years.

It is important to be ahead of the curve and show that Everett, the Lansing School District even, is accepting of all. This needs to be done and set in stone before the 2021-2022 school year ends to ensure the changes stick.

We need your help in getting enough signatures for administrators to listen. Sign if you’d like to join the fight for equality at Everett.
