Everyday, more and more waste is being thrown into our oceans, endangering all life below water. We must begin to make adjustments for our oceans, as without them, life on earth can soon come to a drastic end. A good start would be the preservation of our coral reefs as they provide so many crucial things for ocean life and therefore are incredibly important structures for life below water. They are among the most valuable ecosystems, they act as buffers for shorelines, they help advance medical research as well as protecting coastlines from storms and erosion. By maintaining our coral reefs and protecting them, we are almost guaranteeing a better and healthier life for several creatures underwater, which will help preserve biodiversity. 

Our petition is mainly asking the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard for ongoing financial support into Boyan Slat's amazing project to clean 90% of ocean floating plastic pollution. By having this continuous financial support, the Ocean Cleanup project will be able to add more giant filter barriers to collect the plastic in order to recycle it on dry land. By reducing the plastic waste in our oceans, the coral will be less vulnerable to fatal diseases, there will be less microplastics ending up in our food chain, and therefore a healthier and happier life for the oceans and us!
