Hi, welcome to this petition, that is written by someone who doesn't support the allotment of roles and duties by the society according to the gender of a particular person. If you're on the same page as me, please keep reading. If you aren't on the same page as me, give it a shot! you're about to see things from a different perspective. 

I realised gender roles existed when I myself started to face some. Apparently, being a teenaged girl/boy means you're growing into a woman/man and suddenly there are a hundred different values and habits, that need to be inculcated in you for you to become a desired person who is accepted by the society. Honestly, these values and habits don't come as sudden as it might seem. They've been there since you were a baby, it's just that now you're old enough to realise how toxic they are. Seriously, the "Boys don't cry", the "Girls sit like this", the cars for the boys and dolls for the girls before even asking them what they like, are what? they are all the things people expect from children based on the genders they're born with. How much of effort does it take to treat a child like a child and not like a boy/girl? for some people, a lot.

As children we don't tend to realise it much but we do when we're old enough to have certain habits/values/choices of our own, irrespective of the gender. When a woman is told to stay inside her house to maintain its dignity, and a man is told to go out of his house and work to make a fortune because he is the "man" of the house, is when things start to get worse. A woman can go and work out of her house like a man, and a man can stay unemployed and unashamed like a woman. The sooner we start start treating a person as a person, the better life will be.
