We need to abolish Child Marriage worldwide!

We want you to sign this petition to raise awareness for the dangers of child marriage and highlight the gross human rights child marriage is violating.

We want you to help reduce the annual child marriages and eventually stop and ban this practise. Currently, each year, 15 million girls are married before the age of 18. That is 28 girls every minute, 1 every 2 seconds. And some of those are as young as 8 or 9.

Child marriage endangers personal wellbeing and development. Child brides also face higher rates of violence and poverty.  It is a violation against human rights. Child brides often face lack of freedom. Child brides are at greater risk of experiencing dangerous complications during pregnancy and childbirth, contracting HIV/AIDS and suffering domestic violence.

Article 16 of the Universal declaration of human right says that marriage shall be entered into only with the free and full consent of intending spouses. Child brides are forced to marry another man highlighting another human rights violation. With your help, this basic issue will be highlighted and child marriage will become a crime.

The U.N. Population Fund estimates that more than 140 million girls under the age of 18 will become brides between 2011 and 2020, and more than a third of that group will be under the age of 15. We need to Educate adolescent girls about their human rights as this is a critical factor in increasing the age of marriage in a number of developing countries. Article 26 of the Universal declaration of human rights says that everyone has the right to education.

In these developing countries this basic human right is being violated, with your help, this will be questioned and the countries that lack education for girls will be forced to provide a standard schooling system that is free under Article 26.

If there is no reduction in child marriage, the global number of women married as children will reach 1.2 billion by 2050. In the developing world, 1 in 3 girls are said to be married before the age of 18. Over 700 million women alive today were married as children.

We need your help to change this. By signing the petition, you will be raising awareness of this serious issue and the gross human rights violations of child brides.
