The Chinese government has been persecuting Muslims, especially the Uighur people, since 2014. A million of these people are held in camps in Xinjiang, officially known as XUAR, the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.

All these prisoners are imprisoned for no reason other than the religion and the fact that they are not Han Chinese. This sort of persecution would be wrong, even if it were comparable to what our own government did to American-born Japanese during World War II.

But what the Xi Jinping Administration has been doing to the Uighur is far worse. This is especially true for those prisoners in the camps who are female.

Women in the camps are raped.

Many have been gang-raped, repeatedly. Those who complain after (if) they are released risk having members of their families imprisoned and treated the same way. Uighur who live outside of China also risk the lives and freedom of their relatives who are still in China. 

The US imports far too much from China. We should all do our best to boycott goods made in China in protest against their heinous abuse of human rights.

Non-Chinese goods such as clothing may be more expensive than Chinese imports. But buying Chinese goods makes us complicit in the rapes of these women.
