I am writing to complain about a mental health & drug addict halfway house that is located at 613 W. 9th Street, Wilmington, DE 19801 that is directly next door to my home. The longtime neighbors nor
myself were not made aware that this house would be occupied by residents with various emotional,
mental and drug abuse backgrounds. I understand that housing is a right however there is the potential
for this situation to have an adverse impact for neighbors. Therefore, I consequently find myself obliged
to write this letter & petition with great disappointment.
I have small children in my home and the thought of something happening to one of them, as a result, of
the residents next door, would be tragic. I have witnessed some of the half-way residents being
escorted to the corner store and other not so pleasant occurrences. This causes me to be anxious
about my children walking to the corner store, letting them play outside and watching them as they
leave and return home. I know for sure that my neighbors have similar valid concerns. I would like to see this
half-way house relocated to another area, not close to my house, to eliminate the possibility of a tragic
outcome.
I hope that you agree with me that this is a major anxiety for me, and it should be addressed at once.
My expectations are high and would appreciate your help with this matter.
