To stop baby killer Jim Jones from being honored.

As you know, Jim Jones, is the cult leader who ordered that 305 innocent children be killed first. In life, every person matters, but children matter doubly. Why? Because not only do they evoke our present joy, they also determine our future.

Martin Luther King Jr. in his famous “I Have a Dream” speech said: I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”  His dream was generational and it was for children.  Why?  Because what we allow to happen to them determines who they will become in our future…and what our future will look like. Abuse them, neglect or terrorize them and some of them will become abusers and bullies themselves, disrespecting authority and the aged, and victims of their environment.

On April 20, 1999, we woke up to the news that a total of 12 students and one teacher were murdered on a high school campus. Millions of people worldwide responded with outrage and near hysteria that such heinous crimes could occur. An award winning Documentary movie was made. Many millions contributed to creating a memorial to the victims of this violence, which stands today and which insures that we never forgot the name… “Columbine.”

But in 1978, 305 innocent children were murdered including 40 helpless babies.  The scene from the air over Jonestown that day shocked the entire world, yet the children could not be visibly identified as they were covered by their adult parents.

THEY WERE FORGOTTEN. 305 American Children Found Dead in South America

Today, if we were to see a live video feed of hundreds of children dead, we would be mortified and humiliated and would try to make sure it never happened again.  Yet this is the tragedy and news headline that we have nearly forgotten (even our children don’t know about it):

The families that died in Jonestown, could not imagine their children growing up and living without equal pay for equal work, cutbacks in childcare, lack of higher education and unaffordable health care so they went to build a better world. They heard Dr. Martin Luther King’s speech delivered by Jim Jones and believed in Jones who mimicked the Promise land their hero, Dr. King, spoke about before he was assassinated on April 4, 1968. We have these memories forever etched into our souls:

Twenty-seven (27) of our relatives died in Jonestown (see photo) including my beloved mother, Fairy Lee Norwood, 17 cousins under the age of 18, with the youngest one aged 3-months old.  With the remaining loved ones being an aunt, seniors and a host of friends. It is unimaginable that anyone can forget, “The American Holocaust,” and those 305 silent screams of innocent Children who never had a chance of escape and whose opportunity to live out their God given destiny is gone forever. Now we have a new image to remember this tragedy by, Jim Jones has been honored on top of the final sacred resting place where most of the children are buried.  They are not free.

I AM NOT FREE: Three hundred and five (305) innocent children, including infants had their lives on Earth ended by the orders of a madman. Unlike the 12 killed at Columbine, this 305 STILL have no fitting, decent memorial to their senseless deaths. Why? Because we must strengthen our will and our commitment to honor them. They could not escape him in life and they cannot escape him in death-the name James Warren Jones is etched in this memorial……….. as if he were a victim himself…….they are not free. Families of the victims find it difficult to visit their loved ones and pay their respect now. The agony of seeing "Jones" name next to their loved ones is too much to bear……..they are not free.

As you may know, many years of efforts have gone into building a memorial wall to their names.  30,000 dollars + was spent on these panels  and the photo to the left appeared on the front page of USA Today, November 19, 2008, which made Jones leaders and family rush to be untruthful to get Jim Jones honored alongside of Congressman Leo Ryan, the news team and the real victims. Evergreen deceived the families and leaders who supported us, honored Jim Jones and went to court and testified under oath that they never gave us or their exclusive vendor, Mr. John Cortez, permission to build our community wall. Visit the Evergreen Cemetery vendor telling the truth here in his dying declaration: http://www.youtube.com/jonestownoutrage. Time, materials, memorials and love has been spent in this regard in terms of deposits made to design a proper memorial, but instead all we have is a court case, to force the administrators of Evergreen Cemetery (who breached our contract to partner with the New People’s Temple administration) to take down the “Wall of Shame” they have erected on exactly the spot where most of the 305 children are buried and our Memorial Wall was to stand on. A shameful wall that includes the name of the perpetrator of these horrors, alongside the names of the innocent children-

THE AMERICAN HOLOCAUST: United States Congressman Leo Ryan, Jr., a family man who had great concern for children, was inspired to run for higher office by JFK’s call to servicecall to service in his inaugural address. Congressman Ryan noted that his greatest concern was for the vulnerability of young people and stated that, "We haven't yet found a way to attack these jackals who feed on children and young adults who are too emotionally weak to stand by themselves when they reach the age of consent.”On November 18, 1978, our beloved American politician, who took 18 people to investigate reports of abuse in Jonestown was gunned down and murdered on the Port Kaituma Airstrip by members of the People’s Temple at the orders of Jim Jones. His American news team, Greg Robinson, Bob Brown and Don Harris were also slain while at work just doing their jobs. The actions in Jonestown were viewed as a mass murder, it was the largest such event in modern history and resulted in the largest single loss of American civilian life in a non-natural disaster until the events of September 11, 2001

Raising public awareness is a lifelong journey. We cannot forget how Former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Gifford was shot in broad daylight and 9 year old Christina Green died that day…… because of a madman. We will never forget Representative Gifford’s emotional return to the political stage when she led the pledge of allegiance this year.

CBS first aired a “60 MINUTES SPECIAL" on Dec. 17th 2006, that the Jewish community has over 15 miles of documentation (containing 50 million pages of documents) about the Holocaust. And in the wake of Holocaust deniers the Jewish Community continues to raise public awareness. Jonestown then is like the American Holocaust, and since the new "People's Temple Administration" is denying the reality of Jonestown, and making comments to the press like: "Jonestown was a wonderful place"  "Jim was a great dad" “Everyone had food" and "The Mothers wanted to kill their (innocent, helpless) children," it is clear that we must continue to raise public awareness and never let what happened there ever be forgotten, lest it happen again.

The sign above the bodies found dead in Jonestown read: “THOSE WHO DO NOT REMEMBER THE PAST ARE CONDEMNED TO REPEAT IT.”

We, the families of the forgotten, do not want to see this tragedy repeated and are asking you to Re-dedicate yourself to tearing down the wall of shame at Evergreen Cemetery and putting up the wall of honor to the innocent children and the victims only.
