Grindr is a very toxic app. Youth teens in the LGBTQ+ community struggle a lot in high school with having a sexual experience or even a relationship. You see your friends all in a relationship and because elf your sexuality it’s hard in high school for you to be able to find that when a lot of teens don’t come out till after high school. Grindr gives those teens a toxic environment of feeling like your not alone. Depending on the size of the high school there is usually only 3-6 open people about there sexuality. So going on an app that’s full of people who are out makes you not feel alone in the world anymore. But even with that it’s still a non realistic experience of the gay community. Many youths go into the app thinking that’s what the LGBTQ+ community is like when really you’re diving into the dark end. You are pressured into hard drugs. Viewing your body only for sex. A lot of racism and hate. I know a group that speaks out about loving one another but with no hesitations put in there bio “no blacks” “no fem” “masc for masc” “hookups only” “young teens only”... and much more. You get into a lot of sketchy situations with meeting someone at there house for a hookup. And a lot of the time if you feel uncomfortable it turns out badly. I’ve had a lot of bad experiences with this app. But because I was open about my sexuality so early on in my age there wasn’t many people who were out in my high school so I went into the app. And for so long I thought all of the toxic things that are not the app. Please please please share and inform others about how terrible this app is. It ruins your youth and has ended in a lot of people’s situations in sexual assault.

In high school there was only 4 male students that were out freshman year then when I attended butler tech there was only me to my knowledge of being the only open male student about there sexuality. This was a hard environment that many youth in the LGBTQ+ community struggle with. High school is where you begin all of your relationships. A lot of teens have there first sexual experiences in high school. So for being one of the few openly out male students at my school it was hard for me to be able to have that experience. Then there was Grindr. It was a whole new world where everyone on there was open about there sexuality so it drew me and many other youth in. They draw you in with that tho... when you get on there’s a lot of toxicity shown with the LGBTQ+ community. The pressure for youth to be introduced to hard drugs. The pressure of having sex with someone who is older then you. There are so many discriminatory bios that people put down. And you view your body only for sex. This really effects young minds. You change your body to please older men who have very unrealistic expectations of “what a gay man should look like” you change yourself starve yourself and eventually hate your body because you aren’t what the toxic unrealistic expectations that many gay men want. This can play into youth in the LGBTQ+ community watching porn at such a young age without realizing that it’s not realistic at all! Thank fully my mom was able to tell me at a young age that porn is unrealistic and is not what sex is really like. Youth watch porn because they don’t get to have that experience in high school usually with many people not coming out of the closet till after high school. So with Grindr and porn many youth are being body shammed and having very inappropriate experiences with sex at such a young age.
