Deforestation defined as “the cutting down of trees in a large area, or the destruction of trees by people,” is a huge problem and it is estimated that between 3 and 7 billion trees are cut down each year.

Cutting down of trees cause the loss of animal habitat and also leads to disasters

Forests cover 31 percent of earth’s land surface and house a majority of the plants and animals found on earth. It is estimated that these diverse ecosystems house 80 percent of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. Rainforests have especially high species density, covering 2 percent of earth’s surface, but housing nearly 50 percent of all plant and animal species.

These plants and animals are integral to forest ecosystems and provide countless ecosystem services to humans. If forests ceased to exist humans would be unable to survive.

As important as forests are both environmentally and economically, many of our global forests are severely affected by deforestation.
Deforestation is one of the leading causes of climate change and species extinction.

Some Causes of Deforestation
Soil Erosion and Flooding
Further effects of deforestation include soil erosion and coastal flooding. Trees help the land to retain water and topsoil, which provides the rich nutrients to sustain additional forest life.

Without forests, the soil erodes and washes away, causing farmers to move on and perpetuate the cycle. The barren land which is left behind in the wake of these unsustainable agricultural practices is then more susceptible to flooding, specifically in coastal regions.

Increased Greenhouse Gases
In addition to the loss of habitat, the lack of trees also allows a greater amount of greenhouse gases to be released into the atmosphere. Healthy forests absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, acting as valuable carbon sinks. Deforested areas lose that ability and release more carbon.

Deforestation must stop! We could die if there's a minimal amount of fresh air lingering at our atmosphere. We are destroying our environment. Animals are dying due to the loss of their homes. All of these most stop and we should go back at being just. We are humbly asking for your sign in our petition in saving our forests—the lungs of Earth. Stop deforestation now.
