Splash Mountain is an iconic and nostalgic ride that makes everyone happy. It tells us Disney is our “happy place”. Splash mountain is in no way racist, it tells stories from African American folk tales and covers up any racist stereotypes from Song of the South. The characters are not from Song of the South, only their designs are and this was only done to avoid copyright issues. The characters represent a piece of African American history that does not have much modern representation. Along with that, it represents the first black man to win an Oscar. By removing Splash Mountain, you remove one of the only current and relevant representations of a piece of African American history that does not present any racist stereotypes along with it.

Princess Tiana does deserve her own ride and representation. Instead of replacing representation of African American history with another piece of African American history, why not remove Tom Sawyer Island and replace it with a Princess and the Frog themed attraction. There are so many great ways that this can be accomplished. The whole island could be rethemed to the Louisiana bayou with the current rafts taking you to the area. Within the area would be an elaborately themed Princess and the Frog ride, that would have the time and space to plan out a properly executed and well-done ride instead of a cheap overlay shoved into an existing track to give Tiana the representation she deserves.

By taking this route you effectively keep an example of an underrepresented portion of black history that itself has no racist issues, and are able to effectively give Tiana the representation she deserves.
