I got my hamster after doing weeks and weeks maybe even months of research. I learned that hamsters need big cages, suitable wheels, and more. My parents bought a large hamster cage after me telling them we shouldn't buy the super small ones. When I went to the pet store to get my hamster I felt terrible for all of the hamsters. They were in tiny cages with their sisters or brothers. Imagine you have to share your childhood room with 2 other people. That's what it's like for hamsters.

I didn't feel any better after looking at the wheels, they were small, and wire mesh, which can cause bumblefoot. Small wheels can make hamsters have to bend their back which isn't comfortable. Hamsters need to not have to bend their backs to run on their wheel.

Bedding is an important part of a hamster's life when in the wild, hamsters burrow, which is why you put at least 6 inches of bedding in the cage, I saw no more than 2 inches which don't allow the hamster to burrow.

I didn't get my hamster from those cages but from the back room. This was even worse than the ones that I saw before. It was a small plastic storage bin with holes in the top. It had a house and a water bottle and 3 hamsters were in it! Three! Imagine having to share half of your childhood room with 3 other people!

In conclusion, I think that it's super mean to house hamsters together. Hamsters are solitary meaning that they are supposed to live on their own.
