Dear Australian cat owners, Did you know that 230 million native animals loose their live to the paws of our beloved cats? 37 million mammals, 80 million reptiles and 83 million birds, that’s more then the population of France! Even though the only way to make this massive number anywhere near zero would be to lock up all cats, including strays, forever, keeping ours in at night would decrease it significantly. The thing is, our pampered feline friends don’t really need to catch their own food, we provide all of that for them, so they only do it for the thrill of the chase. One morning as I was wandering around, minding my own business, and I saw an Australian miner bird laying dead on the ground, killed by a cat who hadn’t even taken a bit out of it. As Legge, of the university of Queensland said, “If we accept that feral cats in the bush are a problem, then we have to accept that house cats in town are are also a problem." Even if you don’t care about your local wildlife, 9 in 10 cats that go missing never find their way home. Surely that’s enough reason to keep them in, seeing as most cat’s go missing when left out a night. Please sign this petition and agree to keep your cat in at night. Thank you.
