Folsom, California has many spots that are both beautiful and historically significant. However, one spot in particular brings tension to the otherwise picturesque settings: Negro Bar.

While technically not offensive, the word Negro can make people uncomfortable. On one hand, it was named after the African-American gold miners who discovered gold there in 1849. On the other hand, the word negro was - and still is - used to belittle and deride African-Americans today.

Therefore, I propose changing the name to Gold Bar in order to both remove potential racist connotation of the word negro as well as keeping with its original history.
