Halloween Be Yourself

It seems now—more than ever—people are fighting for their right to truly be themselves, no matter who that is or what that looks like, except for one day of the year...October 31st. Since its inception, Halloween has been a day where society tells us that we are not good enough as we are—that we need to don costumes or masks to fit in and gain the approval of others.

Both Halloween and the costume industry encourage us spending tens of dollars each year in an effort to portray false versions of ourselves, subconsciously making us believe that we are not good enough as we are.

The solution? Be yourself for Halloween this year.

Don’t show up at the office choking on fake vampire teeth, show up wearing your retainer no one knows about. Stop dressing like a slutty cat and just dress slutty if that’s who you are. And for the love of God, don’t dress like you’re Eleven from Stranger Things if you’re a large hairy man—unless you truly are a large hairy man who wears children’s dresses and carries around an Eggo’s box wherever he goes. If so, have at it!

Maybe I seem insane, being so passionate about one day of the year, but it’s not just one day of the year. I’m trying to practice self-love every single day, and that’s why Halloween needs to be a day where I can be myself. Because everyday needs to be a day where you can #Halloweenbeyourself
