Bike share programs offer unreliable ownership with lesser quality bikes, making it less desirable than owning a personal bike for more avid and long term bikers. For students and faculty bike owners, a bike is just like another vehicle that requires servicing and repair. A centralized bike repair shop will provide an easier and more reliable source of bike repair supplies, tools, and parts for all the students and faculty. The bike repair stations already on campus, located in areas like Bosco Plaza and the Chester Peters Recreation Complex, have limited tools and are exclusive for those who know how to tune up their bike. Thus, rendering them useless for beginner bikers unaware of proper bike maintenance. Although not all students and faculty members choose to bike around the campus and the community, the project will create opportunities for bike repair education and greater awareness of bike safety on campus for current student bikers and pedestrians.
