Everyman cinemas celebrate the movie industry by using pictures of movie icons .  Brigitte Bardot is one of them. Whilst there is no doubt that she was a movie icon, the woman has been condemned six times by the French justice for inciting racial hatred and has publicly endorsed the right wing French National Front political party.

After contacting Everyman cinema about the use of Brigitte Bardot on their walls, popcorn boxes across the UK and a mural in their Altrincham cinema, the company replied saying “Please rest assured your feedback has been shared internally with the relevant team.  We aim to use classic film imagery as a way of celebrating film and we would like to reassure you that any comments actors and actresses have made is certainly not intended to be associated with the use of their photographs. The views of Brigitte Bardot and other actors are definitely not our own. We hope that our customers will see these images as they are intended, simply as a piece of classic film artwork”.

THIS IS NOT ENOUGH. Companies cannot hide behind the excuse of artistic choices. Bardot was AGAIN condemned in October 2021 for comparing people from La Reunion to aboriginals who have kept the genes of savages. How can they think it’s ok to celebrate her?!!!!!

Everyman Cinema may not have been aware of Brigitte Bardot’s vile and racist comments but they cannot ignore them anymore.

There are hundreds of artists they could choose to celebrate instead and Bardot is not one of them.
