Every Student Deserves to Attend a Great School
Too many American students are stuck in failing schools. 68% of 8th graders cannot read at grade level and barely half of black, Latino and Native American students graduate from high school. Schools have traditionally taken a "one size fits all" approach to education that doesn't serve the learning needs of all our children.
We can ensure the needs of all children are met by offering more effective school options and empowering parents to make decisions about their children's educations.
After all, parents will naturally put the interests of their children above the interests of the system. And the resulting competition between educational entreprenuers will encourage innovation and continuous improvement that will benefit all students.
Charter schools are public schools, but because they operate with more freedom than traditional schools, they can serve as models of innovation. High performing public charter schools have been shown to dramatically increase student achievement. They are also open to kids throughout a district, so children stuck in underperforming neighborhood schools, or schools that struggle to meet their needs, sometimes find charters to be life-changing alternatives.
Increasing school choice will mean more quality school options for our students, and will empower parents to make sure their children get a great education.
Take the pledge today to join StudentsFirst's fight to increase school choice across America.
in the fight to ensure every student has great public school options.
Expanding school choice will save students from being stuck in failing neighborhood schools and will empower parents to make sure their child gets a great education.
