It is a fundamental human right enshrined in our constitution under the right to live. Until a few years ago when Consumer groups pressed for recognizing water as food it was not. Under the prevention of food adulteration act water was not included. Today while water is recognized as food, the supply of good drinking water to the common man is denied. Almost all the protected water supply systems
managed by the panchayath, municipalities and corporations do not provide 100 percent pure water therefore India has the highest incidents of water borne diseases in the world. Is this fair we ask? Should the government as its fundamental responsibility to its citizens not make 100% pure water to be supplied compulsorily?
