AT&T's CEO recently said: “I don’t think it is Silicon Valley’s decision to make about whether encryption is the right thing to do. I understand Tim Cook’s decision, but I don’t think it’s his decision to make”—end quote. Encryption is a right to privacy. It's no ones decision and it's certainly no business of the government what people say to one another in private. Randall Stephenson recommends we let congress decide this matter for us. Congress has already shown tremendous ignorance and anti-democratic attititudes toward encryption. Not only will so-called 'terrorists' use their own encryption, but as many including Tim Cook have already pointed out, if you put in a backdoor everyone gets in. Head NSA officials lied to congress about what information they were collecting on the people so past experience tells us government cannot be trusted on such matters anyway. And no one was held accountable for this serious deception perpetrated. This petition is a message to Randall Stephenson and Congress to stay away from our encryption and out of our information.
