Jasminkumar Patel started this petition to Evansville City Council and

Honorable Lloyd Winnecke, Mayor of City of Evansville and Honorable Members of Evansville City Council

The City of Evansville has previously authorized the creation of a cricket pitch in Wesselman park. This pitch is used regularly by a large group of adults and lately by a team of children between the ages of 10 and 16. More recently even younger kids have been attracted to the game of cricket and have been using it.

Cricket is an international game very popular in Southeast Asia and also in other countries including Caribbean, Africa, New Zealand , Australia etc. US National cricket team represents our country and participates in international games.

Our goal is to provide the necessary and adequate infrastructure to kids to actively participate in this outdoor and health promoting activity and eventually develop due proficiency.

The existing pitch being composed of compact dirt bears a significant toll, partially washes out and becomes unusable during and after heavy rain. In addition a damaged pitch also poses a hazard to small children with its uneven bounce.

With this petition, we kindly request the permission to pour concrete in the existing footprint of the pitch which will enable us to have a solid foundation that can be covered with artificial turf which is the ideal surface to play the game. This will save us from the frequent, time consuming and quite expensive need of resurfacing of the pitch. We will also be able to use the standard leather ball instead of the tennis ball that we now use for safety reasons. We will bear all the expenses including but not limited to cost of the material and labor and due maintenance. If city allocates any funds, we will be very grateful and appreciative of the kind gesture.

We are optimistically hopeful that the city of Evansville will approve our request in the possible shortest time and partner with us and contribute towards the cultivation of healthy habits and promote the well being of its citizens.

We thank you for your time and kind consideration.
