Petition update

Petition's English translation

Laurence MAMIN
Lausanne, Switzerland

Aug 5, 2015 — For the attention of the members of the Swiss Conference of the Bishops,

« If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads. » ( Leviticus 20 :13)
These are the words used by Mgr. Vitus Huonder, Bishop of Coire, to show his position on homosexuality, during a congress about family in Fulda, Germany.

These words, of a violence that will escape no one, are exactly the words chanted by a religious fanatic when he stabbed 6 people, including a 17-year-old teenager who died of her wounds a few hours ago , during the Gay Pride in Jerusalem.

These words are nothing more than an incentive to murder, than a legitimization of homophobic crimes. These words, in the mouth of an eminent prelate, are a resentful poison which risks to be at the origin of other homophobic crimes.

These words can only bring rejection and hatred. This rejection and this hatred which push every year a significant number of people of the LGBT + community to commit suicide. This rejection and this hatred which are responsible , all over the world, for the murders of homosexual, bisexual or transgender people on a daily basis.

We, sensitive people of this plague that is homophobia, either being ourselves concerned or allies in this fight against homophobia, living in Switzerland or abroad, we ask you to take a stand publicly against Mgr. Huonder words.

To say nothing, not to condemn these words would mean supporting it.And to support also all the the hateful acts which will be committed in the name of these words.

We hope that you also will remember that this very same Leviticus states :
« Thou shalt not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people; but thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself » (Leviticus 19 :18)
The Catholic religion brings words of love.
We hope that, faithful to these words, you will take care to disapprove openly of the resentful speech of Mgr. Huonder.
