Call for ease of restrictions and allow the entry into Europe of Asylum seekers on the border of Poland and Belarus!

With the approach of the harsh winter in the region on the border of Poland and Belarus, thousands of Asylum seekers are trapped on the border of both countries for months. Among them are many families with young children, many elderly women, and men of all ages. In the last several months tens of these refugees lost their lives in the forests on the border, many got abused by Belarus military forces and migrants’ haters along the way to the border. A few days ago, Belarus allowed several thousands of these refugees to cross the border into Poland, however, deploying thousands of Polish military personnel and anti-riot police forcing many to retreat into Belarus, as the results many of them were assaulted by Belarus forces.

These refugees risk their lives and the lives of their children to reach the safety of Europe, many of them flee their own country due to corruption, human right abuses, lack of freedom, etc. Among these refugees are Kurdish people from the Kurdistan region of Iraq who are desperate to reach Europe in hope to get Asylum from EU countries. Many of them flee the KRG government mishandling of the judicial system, widespread corruption among KRG officials and human right abuses by both Kurdish ruling parties Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and Kurdistan Democratic Party. 

We at Kurdish American Group (KAG), an independent non-governmental organization based in the United State of America ask all the NGO groups in the region to help these refugees and save them from this harsh winter and help them put the pressure on Poland to ease restrictions and allow them into Europe. We also call upon the United Nation to get involved and assist in this matter before many of them die in this freezing situation. At the same time, we ask the Belarus and Poland government to refrain from using force against these refugees and allow the press and NGO groups to help them.
