Request an intervention of the EU to create a no-fly zone over the Kurdish regions
After reading this Press Release February 2, 2022 (Sanogerin Theater Group, Volksbühne, Basel) and their concern for creating a public opinion and a clear action of the EU for the Kurdish regions of Iraq, Shengal and northern Syria, in order to protect the population!
Here is the news coming from this theater collective ( I interviewed one person knowing the camps in this article https://www.laregione.ch/ticino7/ticino7/1514174/teatro-giorgia-atelier-giovani-vita-ragazzi-proprio-palco :
Last night (February 1) we learned that the refugee camp of Machmur in Iraq was bombed by Turkish fighter planes (400 km from the Turkish border).
At the same time, the Yezidi settlement of Shengal was bombed in three places, including the Serdescht plateau where the refugees live and a village in Rojava (northern Syria) near Dêrîk. We have phoned people in Machmur - we do not yet have more precise information about the other areas.
In Mashmur, there are a large number of injured people, many of them seriously injured and one dead. There is a pungent smell after the bombing - it is assumed that the Turkish army used chemical weapons.
We are angry and do not want to keep quiet. We lived with the people of Machmur during our work (theater work with the theater group of Machmur and with students from Machmur), we got a glimpse of their lives and structures and we were deeply impressed by what has been and is being built there.
The attacks are aimed at spreading panic and intimidating the population of Shengal, Maxmur and Rojava, with the aim of pushing them to leave the country and distance themselves from the liberation movement. The people of Maxmur fled Turkey over 27 years ago, fleeing terror and extermination. In their self-managed refugee camp, they have built a model of society based on human values, basic democracy, egalitarianism, and a forward-looking approach, inspired by the philosophy of Abdullah Öcalan. The same is true for the people of Shengal and Rojava.
They will not be expelled! Because what the people have built with the liberation movement over the past decades is a real and serious possibility to live away from exploitation, war, and destruction.
They need our concrete and diverse solidarity:
To publicize the achievements of the people of Maxmur, Shengal, Rojava; to put pressure on the European governments - for a no-fly zone to be finally established over the Kurdish regions of Iraq, Shengal and northern Syria, in order to protect the population!!! And an immediate halt to all arms and spare parts exports to Turkey!
