2,200 animals from 345 species at Athens’ only zoo are under THREAT.

Is it justifiable for animals to suffer or even die because of human economics!!
That is exactly what is happening at the only zoo in Athens
Due to the financial difficulties in Greece, European suppliers to the zoo are demanding money in advance rather than the normal terms of 60 days’ credit
The 2009 Lisbon Treaty may also come into consideration here as zoo animal are sentient beings too and should have the same rights as farm animals.
‘’When the Lisbon Treaty came into force in 2009 it amended the 'Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union' (TFEU) and introduced the recognition that animals are sentient beings. Article 13 of Title II states that:
"In formulating and implementing the Union's agriculture, fisheries, transport, internal market, research and technological development and space policies, the Union and the Member States shall, since animals are sentient beings, pay full regard to the welfare requirements of animals, while respecting the legislative or administrative provisions and customs of the Member States relating in particular to religious rites, cultural traditions and regional heritage."
Help us fight for justice for these animals and the zoo. If no one speaks up for them, how will they survive!!
