STOP GHOST FLIGHTS NOW & ACHIEVE CARBON NEUTRALITY BY 2030
Change all EU laws on Transports contradicting environmental common sense and establish new legislative to reach carbon neutrality by 2030, not 2050. Airlines are running empty "ghost" flights during the coronavirus outbreak because of European rules forcing operators to run their allocated flights or risk losing their slots. Some airlines have wasted thousands of gallons of fuel flying the empty planes into and out of Europe. Demand for flights has collapsed worldwide, with one airline-industry group saying the outbreak could wipe out up to $113 billion in sales. UK Transport Secretary Grant Shapps wrote to flight regulators demanding that the "use it or lose it" rules be suspended to stop the ghost flights. On Thursday, UK Transport Secretary Grant Shapps wrote to Airport Coordination Limited asking for the rules to be suspended during the outbreak to prevent further environmental and economic damage. As UK Transport Secretary Grant Shapps, we, EU Citizens are particularly concerned that, in order to satisfy the 80/20 rule, airlines may be forced to fly aircraft at very low load factors, or even empty, in order to retain their slots. Such a scenario is not acceptable. It is not in the industry's, the passengers' or the environment's interest and must be avoided."
We, EU Citizens, demand the following:
1. EU institutions, member states governments and EU policy makers repeal and replace any directives and piece of legislation that has a negative impact on the environment and has non environmental common sense; starting with airlines must be forbidden to fly when less than 10 passengers are booked on the flight;
2. EU institutions, member states governments and EU policy makers legislate to create "Green New Deal" to transform the economy to 100% renewable energy by 2030 not 2050, while creating jobs and ending leases and permits for fossil fuel projects;
3. EU institutions, member states governments and EU policy makers honor treaties protecting indigenous land by ending resource extraction in and affecting those areas;
4. EU institutions, member states governments and EU policy makers legislate to set investment priorities in environmental justice by granting rights to communities affected most by poverty and pollution;
5. EU institutions, member states governments and EU policy makers legislate to protect and restore 50% of the world’s lands and oceans and stopping all deforestation and biodiversity by 2030;
6. EU institutions, member states governments and EU policy makers legislate to legislate to invest in regenerative/sustainable/bio agriculture and ending subsidies for industrial agriculture;
7. EU institutions, member states governments and EU policy makers legislate to enact legally-binding policies to reduce carbon emissions to net zero by 2030;
8. EU institutions, member states governments and EU policy makers legislate to invest in technologies designed for removing CO2 and other greenhouse gases atmospheric excess;
9. EU institutions and member states governments legislate to ensure that the EU economy runs on no more than half the planet’s worth of resources per year, and, initiate similar multilateral treaties with similar goals and impact.
