Shelley Powers started this petition to Vern Carda, CEO Estes Park Health

Nursing home residents across the nation are suffering during this pandemic, including our own Estes Park Health Living Center residents. Since February, they have been isolated from their loved ones, are mentally stressed and confused from the strain of this isolation.

Estes Park Health board is proposing to close the skilled nursing facility attached to the hospital on Jan. 1, 2021 citing financial impact of Covid-19. The facts show that this has been on the hospital radar for many years as it is a non-profit center and does not bring in significant revenue for the hospital. In our opinion, when financials are reviewed in detail, they do not support the closing of a significant asset to our community. Furthermore, we know the hospital has used significant resources to plan a new surgery center at the same time as proposing the closure.

Please sign this petition to stop the eviction of our most vulnerable population in the middle of a pandemic. We cared for my mother for the past 12 years in our home before placing her at the living center this past January. If we could have continued that care and kept her safe, we would have kept her here with us. The people that live at the nursing center have nowhere else to go. Help us support and speak for those that can’t speak for themselves by signing this petition.
