Establish an Annual National Family Month

Establish an Annual National Family Month
The Issue
Family Matters – Sign the Petition to Establish National Family Month
Family is the foundation of every thriving society. It is in the family where we first learn love, trust, discipline, and resilience. Whether bound by birth, adoption, or chosen ties, our families shape who we are and who we become. Yet today, the central role of family in our national narrative is too often ignored—by our culture, our institutions, and our government.
As an adoptive parent, I understand that family is not just defined by blood—it’s defined by connection, commitment, and care. Every family, whether traditional, blended, single-parent, adoptive, or chosen, plays a vital role in building strong, stable individuals and communities.
We are calling on our leaders to officially recognize the time between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day as National Family Month—a dedicated time each year to uplift, honor, and invest in families of every form.
This isn’t just symbolic—it’s strategic. Research shows:
Societies without family as a core structure break down.
- Societal stability collapses when marriage and family rates fall—affecting birth rates, labor force strength, and elder care (Pew Research Center, 2021).
- A 2022 OECD study found that countries with strong family institutions enjoy more civic participation, higher trust, and better public health outcomes.
Strong families mean strong futures.
- Family support is linked to 40% lower rates of adolescent depression (Journal of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry).
- Households with stable family structures report significantly higher household incomes and upward mobility across generations (Brookings Institution).
Safe communities start with families.
- Neighborhoods with strong family networks experience 30% lower crime rates, particularly in youth violence and substance abuse (Heritage Foundation).
This is why National Family Month matters.
It’s a reminder that behind every child’s success, every adult’s resilience, and every community’s safety is a family. When we strengthen families, we strengthen everything.
Now is the time to send a message to our leaders: Family is not optional. It’s essential.
Sign the petition today to make National Family Month a reality.
