Essex Tech Activists started this petition to Essex North Shore Agricultural and Technical School Administration and School Commitee

Last school year, the outbreak of COVID19 forced us to learn online. While I truly believe that Essex Tech did the absolute best that they could given the circumstances at hand, we all know it was not ideal. As the 2020-2021 school year approaches, plans are being created for what school will look like in the fall. In reflecting upon the remote learning that took place last spring, one thing remains clear in my mind and the minds of the majority of Essex Tech students.

In order for students to learn their CTE curriculum, they MUST be in person.

The student body fears that any learning model that does not have shop 100% in person, would without doubt negatively impact student learning. While academic instruction can be done fairly effectively remotely, the hands-on nature of a career technical education makes the ability to gain benefits of this type of learning remotely ineffective. While remote academics worked as well as they possibly could be given the circumstances, the fact remains that due to no fault of anyone, shop education cannot be effectively conducted online.

Because none of the surveys used to make decisions regarding return to school models were sent out to students, and students have not been given any opportunity to give input on the process, we the student body have to make our voices heard through other means

It is for this reason that we, the students at Essex North Shore Agricultural and Technical School, urge that in-person shop education be prioritized, with the assurance that as long as a hybrid learning model is used, that shop will be 100% in person.

Thank You
