Casey Elwell started this petition to Essex District Council - and

On 1st July 2019 Casey Elwell was hit by a motorbike, he was extremely lucky that he only sustained 3 compound fractures to the tibia and fibula.

Casey was crossing by the BP station heading back to the barbers at the time.  CCTV show he waited patiently for the lights and traffic to indicate that it was safe to cross and he then ran across the road.  As he came to the central of the road he ran diagonally toward the barbers, which could have saved his life because if he had crossed in a straight line he would have been hit closer and he would not have had a chance, but the motorcyclist had the opportunity to slow down because he was running away of the traffic.

Pedestrians are able to see the light for the filtered traffic and it is also easy to see what the traffic from Farm Hill Road is doing as the light is in line with where the pedestrian is crossing.  However, the on-going traffic which is heading towards the Crooked Mile has 2 lights but they are both facing toward the on coming traffic but any pedestrian crossing cannot see this light unless they change their positioning and look round a corner.

This crossing is unsafe and needs to be changed or the speed limit changed.
