Many parents, like myself, are having to remove their children from school placements due their child being too anxious to return to school. Like my son, they may have already suffered from school triggered anxiety, and/or the immense recent changes and time at home has made returning impossible. This currently falls under the category of ‘Elective‘ Home Education’, which wrongly is deemed as a parental choice, and as such this means that you can receive no funding to help with resources and access to the community and no support from professionals, such as speech and language or occupational therapy on hand. This is a huge problem and the system is failing our children.  Every child deserves to learn in a setting where they feel safe. For many children with disabilities, the home setting may suit the child’s needs better than a school. Access to a support network and professionals is vital for many children and parents. Funding to buy sensory and other equipment, to access the community by visiting different places,  and general school supplies, needs to be provided to support parents and children through this home school journey.
